Commissioner
Jeon delivers an empowering message to participants representing the female
population at the NTS.

Empowered
Women of the NTS

The
National Tax Service hosted its first “NTS Forum of Women Public Officials”
on February 6, 2007. For the first time in the history of the tax agency, 413
tax officials representing the 4,903-strong female workforce convened at the
main auditorium in the NTS’s Suwon training center to share thoughts on this
year’s topic of “Delivering a Warm-Hearted Tax Administration.”

Under
the subtopics of “Raising Women’s Status at the NTS” and “Delivering on
the Promise of a Warm-Hearted Tax Administration that Taxpayers can Relate to,”
all female managers with a Public Servant Grade of 5 or higher and select employees
with grades ranging from 6 to 9 engaged in lively discussions on the role of
women in achieving those goals. Following Regional Office presentations on such
subjects as “Effective Ways of Developing Talent in Response to the Growing
Women Worker Population within the Organization,” “Realizing Gender Equity
within the Workplace to Promote an Energetic Organizational Culture,” and “Boosting
Women Workers’ Morale and Effective Ways of Self-Development,” Commissioner
Jeon, Goonpyo gave a special lecture in which he emphasized the role of women
in making the NTS a “best-in-class” organization.

“Each
and every one of you are called on to take on a sense of ownership and responsibility
to elevate the nation’s development to the next level,” Jeon addressed the
audience. He expressed his commitment in providing more career advancement opportunities
for manager-level women through implementing such systems as “Promotional Targets
for Women Employees” and “Job Assignment Quotas.” Difficulties faced by working
moms, an issue of greatest concern among the attendees to the Forum, will be
eased, according to Jeon, by expanding childcare facilities and enhancing family
welfare.
