More
than five million taxpayers have chosen the National Tax Service’s Hometax
Service as their preferred method of taking care of tax affairs. Using the website
(www.hometax.go.kr), registered users are able to, among other things,
file tax returns, receive notification of assessments, pay taxes, and have various
tax documents issued all from the comfort of their homes and offices, with just
a single click of the mouse.

The
Hometax Service is run on the foundation of an IT technology unmatched in its
sophistication and advancement. Many countries including Japan, China, Malaysia,
and Vietnam have expressed their intention to benchmark the NTS system, which
made the list of the “Top 10 Government Innovation Brands.” Annual cost savings
from less cumbersome visits to the tax office and reduced taxpayer-facing administrative
spending are estimated to be over 400 billion KRW.

The
NTS celebrated the occasion by inviting five taxpayers to its head office in
Seoul, each representing the Hometax Service\'s 5 millionth, 4 millionth, 3 millionth, 2 millionth, and 1 millionth registry, and giving out gifts.
